Our History

In the fall of 2003, Ken Janke, Johnny Sertin, and Micha Jazz, met while serving on a global think tank. Together they formed Groundworks. What emerged was a fraternity of relationships that formed while Groundworks operated its training initiatives, brain trust summits, and collaborative initiatives. As 2010 emerged a joint decision was formed to continue to function under a re-assessed identity and therefore  release the Groundworks identity to emerge with a fresh vision  for innovation and social mission.

Ken Janke joined collaborative forces with Slate Ballard and together they have taken Groundworks forward with a fresh intuitive understanding of an emerging need in America. Together they facilitate change by brokering relational collaboration, Incubating social mission initiatives, and providing a new organizational consultancy model that produces innovation. Together they are imagining the future while giving shape to today's issues.

Our missional aim still remains to encourage, mobilize and resource people, organizations, and communities who are aiming at excellence in their life’s mission. The outworking of this is realized through our initiatives: The Grove and the Social Innovators Consortium.
